It took overtime, but the South Fulton girls preserved their perfect record with a 37-32 edging of Union City in middle school basketball on Tuesday.
In the nightcap, it was the UC boys keeping their 2008-09 mark spotless as they improved to 5-0 after a 44-32 bettering of SF.
In the girls’ game, Lakin Hailey poured in 24 points and also led the team in rebounds (nine) and steals (five) to pace the Devilettes (5-0). Ka-lon Martin also reached double digits with 12 markers for the SF.
Jackie Hudson recorded a double-double with 13 points and 22 rebounds for the Lady Twisters (2-3), while Amber Fair offered seven markers during the defeat.
During the boys’ game, Keylon Hyde totaled 12 points and 14 rebounds, with Travis Rutland good for 11 points and eight boards and Keontre Murrell responsible for a team-high 14 markers and five caroms. Keric Brooks was also lauded by Twisters’ coach Ronald Ward for controlling the game tempo.
South Fulton (3-2) got 10 points from Khiry Lewis, seven from J.P. Fowler and six from Tevaris James.
UC travels to Halls on Thursday with a boys’ “B” game on tap and tipoff for the varsity games set for 6 p.m. South Fulton next sees action on Monday when they entertain Fulton City.
OCYBL set to register
at Rebel Field Saturday
The Obion County Youth Basketball League will be accepting registrations on Saturday at the Obion Central football field.
The sign-ups will be taken from 9 a.m. until 3 p.m. with a $15 registration fee that must be paid on Saturday.
The league is open to children in grades 1-6, according to a spokesperson.
Generals left all wet
in twin losses to LC
Lake County left Lake Road all wet in a middle school basketball twinbill on Tuesday evening.
The Generals fell 51-40, while their female counterparts were 45-25 losers.
In the boys’ game, Austin Carter propelled LR’s efforts with 12 points, seven rebounds and three steals, while Coleman Dunn had a stat sheet that read 10 points, two rebounds and two assists.
Otherwise, for the Generals (2-1), Shaw Logan accounted for nine and Anthony Roberson eight.
In the girls’ game, Brooke Jennings poured in 17 points and Brandi Goodman offered 11 points and six rebounds for the LR girls (1-2).
Lake Road returns to the hardwood Thursday evening against Hillcrest.
