The first-ever fallen firefighter memorial golf tournament was dubbed a huge success as teams showed up last Thursday at Persimmon Hills Golf Club in Sharon to soak in a beautiful afternoon of golfing and support a worthy cause. The tournament was a four-man scramble with 10 teams participating in the event. Team members were treated to lunch and were given goodie bags that were donated by local businesses. The goal of the scramble was to help the Martin Fire Department raise money for the Tennessee Fallen Firefighter Memorial. The event was held Thursday, Oct. 30 and the department managed to raise $1,400 to put toward the state memorial. After lunch, the tournament began with a shotgun start. Prizes were awarded at each hole for not only the best golfers, but the worst golfers as well. wcp 11-11-08
