Next UT head coach
will need integrity

KNOXVILLE (AP) — The top characteristic Tennessee athletic director Mike Hamilton is looking for in the Volunteers’ next coach is integrity.
Hamilton said Thursday he has no specific timeline for hiring a coach because he’s concerned most with finding the right candidate to replace coach Phillip Fulmer, but does want the process to move as quickly as possible.
Hamilton says he’s searching for a proven leader, someone who’s good at evaluating player talent and a salesman who can promote Tennessee to fans and recruits.
Tennessee will use a search firm to help interview and vet a list of candidates provided by Hamilton, who declined to speak about specific candidates for the job.
Already South Carolina coach Steve Spurrier and Duke mentor David Cutcliffe, both of whom have ties to the “Volunteer State,” have stated they have no interest in the position
Fulmer announced Monday he will not return after 17 years as head coach at the request of the university.
The Vols are 3-6 this season and 1-5 in the Southeastern Conference.
