The Messenger. 11.06.08 About 1,000 Gibson Electric Membership Corp. customers experienced a brief power outage Wednesday morning when a limb came into contact with a line. A Gibson EMC spokesman said construction work was under way on County Home Road, about three miles west of Union City, when the limb came into contact with the line and burned the line, causing a substation breaker to go out. The electric co-op’s crew opened the switch to get everyone’s power back on, but an insulator then broke on an airbreak switch, which required the crew to bypass the switch to restore power, the spokesman said. About 1,050 customers experienced the outage, which began at 11:52 a.m. Power was restored to all but about 100 customers at 12:09 p.m., with power restored to everyone by 12:53 p.m.
