The Messenger. 11.06.08 Books event planned Books for the Journey will meet Nov. 13 at noon at Union City Cumberland Presbyterian Church, located at 631 East Church St. Dr. Doy Daniels will facilitate the group’s discussion of Dietrich Bonhoeffer’s “Commentary on the Sermon on the Mount.” All who are interested are invited to attend. Christmas Bazaar set Artists, crafters and vendors are being sought for St. Jude Catholic Church’s ninth annual Country Christmas Bazaar and Breakfast with Santa Dec. 6 from 8 a.m.-3 p.m. in the social hall. The day will start with a fresh hot breakfast with Santa, followed by a hot luncheon and a sale of delicious home-baked cookies and cakes.   Area residents are invited to shop from a large variety of handmade gifts, including jewelry, woven shawls, wooden baskets, soap and lotions, ornaments, wreaths and much more. Other activities will include photos with Santa, games and crafts for children, a silent auction, a quilt raffle and a book sale. Children can participate in the games and crafts by donating snacks, powdered drinks and soups and candy, which will be sent to American troops for Christmas. Home-based businesses and arts and crafters are welcome to participate at the cost of  $25. Electricity will be available. St. Jude Catholic Church is located at 110 Hannings Lane in Martin, behind the University of Tennessee at Martin dorms. Harvest Day set Harvest Day will be observed Sunday at Woodland Mills First Baptist Church. The day’s activities will begin with Sunday School at 9:45 a.m., continue with morning worship at 11 and conclude with a fellowship meal in the church’s ACTS Building after the morning service. There will be no evening service. The annual Harvest Day will cap off a three-day Harvest Revival that begins tonight at the church. Revival services will start at 7 p.m. today, Friday and Saturday. Speakers will include the Rev. Terry Council, pastor of Blessed Hope Baptist Church in Troy, tonight; the Rev. James Kinsey, pastor of Sunswept Baptist Church in Union City, Friday night; and the Rev. Mike Hazelwood, pastor of Johnson Grove Baptist Church near South Fulton, Saturday night. Country Bazaar set Immaculate Conception Catholic Church women’s group is hosting a Country Store Bazaar Friday from 7:30 a.m.-4 p.m. and Saturday from 7 a.m.-noon at the church activity building at 1303 East Reelfoot Ave. in Union City. There will be homemade jams, jellies and mixes, relishes and baked goods. Meals will be served both days. The Friday menu will include soup, sandwich, dessert and beverage for $4.50, served from 11 a.m.-1 p.m. On Saturday, the Knights of Columbus will be serving a pancake and sausage breakfast there from 7-11 a.m. for $4. To honor pastor Bashan Baptist Church in Rives will honor their pastor and his wife, the Rev. Rozelle Dotstry and Janet Dotstry, for 27 years of service Sunday. Elder Raymond Jenkins of Bashan Baptist will speak at the 11 a.m. service. Elder Phillip Sanders of Friendship Freewill Baptist Church in Union City will also speak, following a meal after morning worship. The public is invited to attend. Gospel concert slated Peabody High School band boosters will be hosting a gospel singing fundraiser Friday beginning at 7:30 p.m. at the school in Trenton. Appearing will be Brian Free and Assurance, Austin’s Bridge and Ben Kirk, a native of Obion County. Tickets are on sale at The Lighthouse in Union City and by calling (731) 343-6453. F&F Day set New Beginnings Apostolic Church, located on the corner of Palestine and Middle Road in Fulton, will host Family and Friends Day Sunday at 10 a.m. There will be a potluck meal following the service, with the Rev. Brian Goodman as the speaker. The public is invited to attend. To celebrate homecoming House of Prayer will observe homecoming and anniversary services Sunday, beginning with worship at 10 a.m. The guest speaker will be the Rev. Scotty Downs. A meal will be served in the family life center from noon-2 p.m. and there will be gospel singing with The Downs Family at 2. The church is located at 201 Carr St. in Fulton. The Rev. Daniel Woodruff and the church family invite the community to join them. Revival to begin First Church of God, located at 415 South Miles Ave. in Union City, is announcing fall revival services Friday through Sunday. The Rev. Wayne Anderson will be the evangelist. Friday and Saturday services will be 6:30 p.m. and Sunday services will be at 10:30 a.m. and 6 p.m. Anderson is described as a gifted speaker and communicator with a heart for God’s people, a well as those who do not yet have a relationship with Christ. He and his wife, Kay, are pastors at Austin Road Community Church in Daphne, Ala. Special music will be presented at each service. The Rev. Mel Jacobs, Jerry Wicker and Wayne McLean, along with the congregation, are inviting the community to join them for these special days of worship and renewal.
