Lake Road teams leave Fulton City ‘blue’
Lake Road took Kentucky by storm during its 2008-09 middle school basketball debut on Monday evening.
The Lady Generals drubbed Fulton City 37-10 in their first game of the year, while their male counterparts were victorious by a 42-33 margin.
In other action on Monday, Black Oak dropped a pair at Dyer with the boys falling 50-33 and the girls 32-20 losers.
No statistics were reported from South Fulton Middle School’s scheduled games against Hickman County.
Tonight’s middle school basketball slate has Ridgemont at Martin, Hillcrest at Dyer County and Union City headed to South Fulton.
LR off to good start
The Lake Road girls tripled FC 18-6 at halftime and they never looked back en route to Monday’s final total.
Alex Wilson was the leading lady for LR with six points, while Kim Klein offered four points for the victors.
During the nightcap, Coleman Dunn paced the Generals with 12 points, five steals and four assists, while Casey Mallard offered nine markers and pulled down six rebounds.
Otherwise, Zach Tucker and Shawn Logan each scored eight points for Lake Road.
The LR basketball teams return to action on Thursday when they host Ridgemont in an Obion County School System twinbill.
Black Oak falls
The Eagles debut with Mack Pirtle as the team’s head coach didn’t go as planned.
Black Oak trailed 32-14 at halftime and the Hornbeak natives shaved just a point off of that 18-point deficit when all was said and done.
Blake Rudd topped the BO scoring summary with 14 points and he also snatched five steals, while Rusty Smith also reached double digits with 10 during the defeat.
Hunter Short collected six rebounds for Black Oak.
In the girls’ game, Darcey Jones paced the Lady Eagles with nine points, while Kelsy Dial contributed five.
Abby Blackburn brought down seven rebounds for BO.
The Black Oak basketball teams return to action Thursday with an OCSS doubleheader at South Fulton.
