It appears Democratic candidate Judy Barker has defeated Republican Bill Sanderson for the state House of Representatives, District 77. The total unofficial votes for the district are 11,389 to 10,862. Obion County is reporting 7,365 votes for Mrs. Barker to Sanderson’s 5,691. Dyer County is reporting 2,608 to 4,438, while Lake County is reporting 1,416 to 733, respectively. In other contested races in Obion County: John McCain carried in the presidential election with 66 percent of the votes. Lamar Alexander received 68 percent of the votes for the U.S. Senate seat. In mayoral races, Pete Burpo won in Hornbeak, Wes Miller in Obion and Jimmie Hart in Troy. In contested municipal races: • Obion Council — Tammy Foggie, Patsy Barker, Donald Bloxom, Polk Glover, Jerry Carver and Michael Miller. • South Fulton Commission, Ward 1 — Charles Moody. • Union City Council, at-large — Bill “Rat” Harrison.
