Cluff E. Hopla, 90, of Martin, died Thursday, Oct. 30, 2008, at Volunteer Community Hospital. Graveside services will be held 2 p.m. Thursday at Evergreen Cemetery in Springville, Utah. Richard Hopla, Dan Hopla, Michael Hopla, Robert Wilton and Douglas Durrant will serve as pallbearers. Honorary pallbearer will be Allister Wilton. Dr. Hopla was born Dec. 28, 1917, in Mapelton, Utah, son of the late David and Lily Elizabeth Erickson Hopla. He was the widower of Moyra Ullock Hopla, was a World War II U.S. Navy veteran, a graduate of the University of Kansas, a retired professor and chairman of the zoology department at the University of Oklahoma for 15 years, and a member of the Church of Jesus Christ of Latter Day Saints. Survivors include two sons, Dr. Richard Earl Hopla of Cranston, R.I., and Dr. Dan Michael Hopla of Florence, S.C.; one daughter, Dr. Anna Hopla of Martin; three sisters, Lenora Durrant of Carmel, Calif., Carmen Harris of Provo, Utah and Renée Dove of St. George, Utah; and three grandchildren, Michael John Hopla of Florence, S.C., and Allister Edwin Wilton of Memphis.
