UCMS hoops season
starts on right foot

Union City Middle School opened the 2008-09 basketball season on the right foot Thursday evening.
The Lady Tornadoes destroyed Northview 42-13, while their male counterparts slipped through with a 52-51 triumph.
In the girls’ game, Amber Fair totaled 12 points, six steals and four assists for the victors, while Shannon Wiggins also tossed in a dozen markers for UC.
Jackie Hudson brought down 13 rebounds for the Lady Twisters and she contributed seven points and a like number of steals.
On the boys’ side, Travis Rutland had a double-double with 27 points and 24 rebounds for the winnerss, while Joseph Shanks hit the game-winning free throws and ended the evening with 10 markers and nine caroms.
In boys’ “B” game action from Thursday, the Twisters were 38-14 winners.
Union City next plays in a twinbill at South Fulton on Tuesday that is set to begin at 6 p.m. That evening’s “B” game will begin at 5.
