In a surprising move Tuesday evening, members of the Weakley County Commission announced a new trustee to take the place of Donald Doster after he announced his retirement earlier this month. Commissioners chose Marci Floyd to take the seat as Weakley County Trustee. “I don’t understand it. When I recommended Linda to replace me, I just did what I thought was the logical thing to do,” Doster said in a phone interview Wednesday morning. Doster announced his retirement earlier this month after more than two decades as Weakley County Trustee citing he wanted to spend more time with his new wife. He recommended deputy trustee Linda Pettit to take over in the capacity of trustee upon his retirement date of Oct. 31. Pettit has worked in the office for 18 years. ‘I think the other two women that were running were certainly capable individuals. I consider them my friends. I wish Marci the best of luck,” Doster commented. “As far as training goes, she can learn from the ladies here. Both of the women have training from the University of Tennessee at Martin and carry diplomas from those courses. Accounting and business skills are helpful in this position,” Doster added. “I look forward to serving the citizens of Weakley County,” Floyd commented on Wednesday. “If anyone has any suggestions for me, please stop by the office and see me,” she added.. Floyd has worked in the Weakley County department of Finance office for the last eight and a half years. She will take over as Weakley County Trustee in an official capacity Nov. 1 and will start her first day at the office on Monday, Nov. 3. WCP 10.30.08
