God bless America again

“Blessed is the nation whose God is the lord; and the people who He has chosen for His own inheritance.” (Psalm 33:12) The following is not a political announcement, although I approve this message. Two days after a new president is elected, I will celebrate 65 years of life on this planet. I am amazed that I have lived so long. I certainly did not will it to be so. I was born in Brandon ‘s Hospital on Sterling Street in Martin during the heat of World War II. Our nation has not won a war since that time on a global scale. My love for America is in many ways like the love that I have for my wife. She has been and is good to me, but I must admit that I do not agree with her on every issue, nor does she me. Our feelings for one another do not change when we disagree. After 43 years of marriage I want to keep her, if she still wants me. I believe that she does. I am an American. I was born an American, and I will die an American. I have been across the “Great Pond” to Europe and still have friends there. I have friends in Thailand and south of our border, and I have set foot on Canadian soil. These were nice places to visit, but I do not want to live there. West Tennessee is my home and a Garden of Eden here on earth. God bless America, land that I love. I am blessed to live in a country where I can worship Jehovah God in the person of Jesus Christ, His son, according to the dictates of my own heart. Material-minded people and those with no religion at all can choose this day who they will serve, as long as the way they live does not interfere with my rights and the rights of other Americans. God has given to us a pleasant land, a beautiful land filled with milk and honey. If I may borrow a few words from a great American named Abraham Lincoln, “Now we are engaged in a great global war testing whether this nation or any other nation shall for too long endure.” Another man by the name of Yamamoto said rightfully so in World War II, “We have awakened a sleeping giant.” Any president or world leader cannot go to war with an army. He or she must go to war with a people behind him. I heard a wise man say a few short days ago that it is the water that is inside of a ship that sinks it to the bottom. I believe that America will not always be the superpower that she is today as more and more countries obtain nuclear weapons. The United States has gone from a manufacturing economy to a service economy. When ammunition for our soldiers is being manufactured in a foreign country we run the risk someday of running out of shells. God is not a politician, but He does raise up kings and brings down rulers. You may say in this country that they are voted in by the people. And to some extent that is so. Israel wanted a king, and God gave them Saul. America wants a new president, a fresh start and hope for a better tomorrow. I believe however this race turns out God’s will shall be done. I also believe that in this country of ours, both candidates are decent men. When it comes to a game of sport the American people like to root for their choice of team in the NFL. I do not believe that McCain nor Obama dislike each other in any fashion. They are both gentlemen and good sportsmen, but in order to win they have to throw the ball at one another during this race. Sometimes footballs get muddy and dirty. They both want to occupy the Oval Office, and only one of them will be hired for the job. Two decent men and one troubled country are waiting. In closing let me just say, “Don’t forget to vote on Nov. 4.” So many have paid for that right with their lives. God bless America again. And we will all get in on it. In His service, Brother Russell wcp 10-30-08
