Halloween is fast approaching and we are looking forward to a great day of activities. We’ll start out with a costume contest at 10:15 so please bring in costumes for your loved ones that want to compete. At 2 we’ll have a big party with tons of tasty treats. We’ll be finishing up with trick-or-treaters being welcome from 6:30-8:30 that night. We wish all of you a safe and happy Halloween! Our residents voted for the upcoming presidential election on Tuesday morning. The ladies from the election commission came out and did a wonderful job. Their kind smiles and patience were key to a smooth voting process for our residents. Thank you. This week’s cover card winners were Alberta Barker, Marie Blackburn, Sue Bailey, Vivian Edwards, Nancy Mansfield and Cynthia Culpepper. Everyone was a 50-cent winner at one-line bingo. Mrs. Dorothy Griggs donated $15 to our bingo fun so we used it for quarter bingo and a few cover card winners. We continue to have great crowds so the extra donations really come in handy. Thank you for your generosity. First United Methodist Church was with us on Tuesday afternoon. Our residents always enjoy their program and look forward to each month’s return. Mr. Whiteman led the residents in song and Bible study on Wednesday morning. He is outstanding and does a remarkable job. Lillian Melton took first place honors at beanbag toss with a very high score of 490. Inez Spence also had a great game and finished in second place. Betty Parham showed her hoop skills at the basketball shoot out with seven in a row! Nancy Mansfield and Mignon Mayo finished in second and third. Everyone did great. The Price Is Right was a lot of fun with many participants. Mignon Mayo won the necklace, Barry Flowers won the blanket, Ruth Scott won the book, and Sue Bailey won the pumpkin pail. It was a lot of fun and there was some really close guesses. Residents filed into the activity room for popcorn and movie. Instead of popped popcorn, we enjoyed popcorn balls all in the spirit of upcoming Halloween. They enjoyed watching the new release, “Iron Man.” They really enjoyed it all. Restorative Saturday was a blast for the residents as well. They gathered for Halloween trivia and snacks. The residents had a great time and did a terrific job. It was a very fun Saturday for all. Sunday did not slow down either. Residents started out with Sunday school classes provided by Liberty Church of Christ and Dresden First Baptist Church. They are so generous in their attendance, and we greatly appreciate it. Friends of Carmen Kelley provided the afternoon entertainment. They always do a spectacular job, and we are so lucky to have them. We cannot stress enough how valuable volunteers are to our activity schedule and our residents. Thank you all!wcp 10-23-08
