UNION CITY — The Family Cancer Center, which operates 10 facilities in the Memphis tri-state area, has been awarded a three-year accreditation in computed tomography (CT) services by the American College of Radiology, a national professional medical organization dedicated to providing quality patient care.
Accreditation by the American College of Radiology ensures that the physician interpreting scans has met stringent education and training standards and the imaging equipment is surveyed regularly by a medical physicist to make sure that it is functioning properly and is taking optimal images. It also ensures that technologists operating the equipment are certified by the appropriate body.
The American College of Radiology awards accreditation to facilities for the achievement of high practice standards after a peer-review evaluation of the practice. Evaluations are conducted by board-certified physicians and medical physicists who are experts in their field. The team assesses the qualifications of the personnel and the adequacy of the equipment at the facility.
The American College of Radiology is the leading radiology organization and one of the top US health care organizations in terms of federally funded clinical research.
