VISITS SENIOR CENTER — Former Tennessee Gov. Ned Ray McWherter stopped by Dresden’s Senior Citizen Center last week to visit with local seniors. Weakley County Office on Aging / Dresden Senior Citizens Center Director Gail Rogers said, “The seniors
Hello everyone! This has been a great week. We have been very busy at the Dresden Senior Citizens Center. Lots of activities have been happening and fun filled days. We invite you to come out to the center and participate in all of the activities. Everyone really enjoys our exercise gym. And remember this is free … and good for your health! We have started a new activity call “Bingo Madness.” Everyone is really enjoying it. You need to come into the center and pick up a bingo card and each day we post a bingo number and when your card is completed you win a gift that is valued at $25 to $50. It takes about two to three months to complete a card. The rules are: You cannot call the office to find out the number, you either have to come into the center or call a buddy. It is a fun game. So if you don’t have your card come on in and pick up your card today. We were honored to have a special visitor at our senior citizens center last week. Gov. Ned R. McWherter visited with several of our seniors. Gov. McWherter said that he was very pleased with the appearance of the senior center. He also commented that he was excited to see so many card players having an enjoyable afternoon. Everyone was very excited to see Gov. McWherter. We are honored that the center is named after his parents, Harmon and Lucille McWherter. We would like to invite everyone to our annual Halloween Dinner/Dance on Tuesday, Oct. 28. Dinner will start at 6 p.m. and entertainment will begin at 7 p.m. Carry-outs will be available at 4 p.m. The menu includes baked chicken, potato salad, slaw, drink and dessert. Kenny Presley will entertain. So come on out for a fun-filled night. Tickets are $5 per person or $8 a couple. Please reserve tickets in advance. Any age is welcome! We have also chartered a bus to go to Wolfchase Mall in Memphis on Dec. 12 for a shopping trip and also we will be going that evening to Bellevue Baptist Church to see the production “The Living Christmas Tree.” We will leave the Dresden Senior Citizens Center at noon. Cost for the trip is $45, which will include transportation and a ticket for reserved seating at Bellevue Baptist Church. This will be a most impressive production. We would like to welcome four new board members to our senior center advisory council: Amy Lewellen, Colin Johnson, David Tuck and Kenneth Irvine. We would like to thank all of our board members for their interest in our center and their involvement. For more information concerning any activities please call 364-5678. Hope everyone has a great week.wcp 10-16-08
