|MURRAY, Ky. (AP) — Paul McKinnis rushed for 170 yards and three second-half touchdowns to lead Murray State to a 51-21 victory over Tennessee Tech on Saturday. |
McKinnis scored on runs of five, 36 and 50 yards as the Racers (3-4, 2-1 Ohio Valley Conference) held off the Golden Eagles (3-4, 1-2).
McKinnis’ final score came with 43 seconds remaining in the game.
Murray State’s Jeff Ehrhardt completed 22-of-29 passes for 330 yards and two touchdowns as the Racers had 645 yards of offense.
He also rushed for 64 yards during his team’s victory on Saturday.
The Racers took a 7-0 lead when Ehrhardt found Derrick Townsel on a 59-yard touchdown pass with 5:25 left in the first quarter.
Townsel caught 11 passes for 199 yards.
Murray State scored twice in the second quarter when Charlie Jordan scored on a 14-yard run and Ehrhardt hit Marcus Harris on an 11-yard touchdown pass for a 21-0 lead with 59 seconds left in the first half.
Tennessee Tech came back on Lee Sweeney’s 23-yard touchdown pass to Tim Benson with 34 seconds left in the half to cut the lead to 21-7.
The Racers had three interceptions in the third quarter, leading to three scores and a 37-7 lead.
Jordan scored on a one-yard run, Kienan Cullen kicked a 39-yard field goal and McKinnis scored his first touchdown on a five-yard run.
Sweeney completed 22-of-33 passes for 180 yards and two touchdowns for Tennessee Tech.
He also scored on a one-yard run.
Defensively, Nathan Williams recorded 19 total tackles and a sack.
The effort earned him this OVC’s Defensive Player of the Week award.
