Absentee ballot voting procedure
The Weakley County Election Commission reminds voters that they may be entitled to vote by absentee ballot in the upcoming general election scheduled for Nov. 4. In order to be eligible to vote by absentee ballot a voter must have a legal reason. To vote by mail in Tennessee, voters must meet one of the following valid legal criteria: Persons outside of the county, including military and overseas voter; students and spouses outside the county; persons on permanent absentee voting register; residents of certain institutions; jurors; persons older than 65 years old; persons hospitalized, ill or with a disability; candidates for office; election officials, observance of a religious holiday; or persons possessing a valid commercial driver license. Persons wishing to vote by mail must send a letter to the Weakley County Election Commission (to the address below) with the following information: 1) Name (printed), 2) residential address, 3) address to mail ballot to, 4) Social Security number, 5) elections they want to vote in, 6) their legal reason for voting absentee and 7) their signature. Letters must be received by Tuesday, Oct. 28, for all persons, except those that qualify under the permanent absentee voting register. The deadline for persons that qualify under a physician’s statement for the permanent absentee voting register is Thursday, Oct. 30.
