Completed arrangements are being announced for Charles Huffman Akers Sr., 79, of South Fulton. He died 5:57 p.m. Oct. 7, 2008, at Western Baptist Hospital in Paducah, Ky.
Services will be 2 p.m. Friday at Hornbeak Funeral Home in Fulton, with burial following in Greenlea Cemetery there.
Friends may call at the funeral home from 5-8 this evening and on Friday from 8 a.m. until the hour of services.
He was born May 18, 1929, in McKenzie, son of the late Ernest Lee and Neelie (Haynes) Akers. He was married to the former Mary Josephine Gatton, who survives, and was a retired teacher and coach who had been employed at South Fulton High School.
He was a graduate of Murray (Ky.) State University and was a Church of Christ member. He was a U.S. Air Force veteran who had served in the Korean War.
Survivors also include four sons, Charles H. Akers Jr., Phillip Akers, George Blane Akers and Mike Akers, all of South Fulton; his brother, Steve Baker of McKenzie; and six grandchildren and five great-grandchildren.
He was also preceded in death by his daughter, Pamela Kay Akers; two brothers, Jim Akers and Dick Akers; and his sister, Sissy Moody.
