McMinnville, TN –  Final preparations are fast and furious as organizers of the 2008 Dottie West Music Fest announce the final twelve amateur singer-songwriters that have been picked to perform in the semifinals of the Singer-Songwriter Contest, and the addition of Dottie West’s granddaughter Tess Frizzell to the concert roster.

In alphabetical order, the Singer/Songwriter semifinalists are:  James Bell, Manchester; Harold Burnette, Johnson City; Adam Freeze, Morrison; Jennifer Gillenwater, Butler, TN; Darlene Long, Manchester; Stacy McCoy, Rock Island; Barry Medley, McMinnville; Drew Miller, Murfreesboro; Rory T. Miller, Rock Island; Roger Norris, Elk Park, NC; Terian Turner, McMinnville; and Steve Woodlee, McMinnville.

Bill Myers and I are very pleased with the quality and diversity of our semifinalists , said Thomas B. Vaughn, Talent Coordinator for the Dottie West Music Fest. We have contestants from Middle and East Tennessee, as well as North Carolina.  We have males and females.  Our youngest is 13; our oldest is on the cusp of 70.  They are all excited about performing at the Dottie West Music Fest, and we hope they ll each bring a convoy of family, friends and fans to cheer them on!

The semifinals start at 12 noon Saturday, October 11.  Up to 5 semifinalists will advance to the finals, where the top 3 winners will be picked, recognized and rewarded with cash prizes, certificates and Dottie West T-shirts.

The Singer/Songwriter Contest is just one of the events scheduled.  The highlight will be in the evening, when country stars of great renown will grace the stage of downtown McMinnville.  The latest addition, Tess Frizzell, will join the multi-talented singer-songwriters Jacky Jack White, Jim McBride, Wood Newton, Kacey Jones, Naomi Morrison and Jeremy Stone in a tribute to Dottie West.

We re delighted that Tess is coming to help us honor her beloved grandmother, Dottie West , said Myers.  This young lady can really sing , added Vaughn.  She will be a great addition to our already excellent line-up of professional singer-songwriters .

Born in Nashville, TN, Tess is the daughter of award-winning Country artist Shelly West and Country Gospel artist and producer Allen Frizzell.  Country music legends are part of her lineage.  Her mom is the daughter of Country superstar singer and songwriter Dottie West.  Her dad is the younger brother of David and the legendary singer and songwriter Lefty Frizzell.

Tess grew up in the midst of music.  She even learned to walk on a tour bus!  From doing demos in her dad s studio to touring with her uncle David and singing her mom s part on the David Frizzell and Shelly West duo s many hits, Tess has sharply honed her  performing  skills on the way to becoming a rising Country music star in her own right.

I ve heard Tess sing, and I m convinced she s ready to move from the shadows of her magnificent musical heritage into the limelight of her own soulful interpretation of ‘Country Sunshine’, said Vaughn.  We invite everyone to join us on Saturday, October 11, in downtown McMinnville, TN , added Myers.

Gates open at 10 a.m., admission is just $5 for the entire day.  Bring a lawn chair and enjoy all the fun at the Dottie West Music Fest in downtown McMinnville, TN on Saturday, October 11, 2008.  All proceeds go toward Dottie West Scholarships for nontraditional students at Motlow State Community College s McMinnville Campus.
