Vera Mae (Laird) Pruitt Newman, 85, of Union City died Oct. 6, 2008, at Union City Manor Nursing Home.
Services will be 11 a.m. Wednesday at White-Ranson Funeral Home, with the Rev. Mike Glover officiating. Burial will follow in Sanders Chapel Cemetery near Union City.
Friends may call at the funeral home 5-8 p.m. today.
Pallbearers will be Carl Kizer, Ricky Cloar, Joshua Lyle, Darren Rose, Andrew Zellar and Jackie Laird.
She was born Aug. 18, 1923, in Gibson County, daughter of the late Jesse and Nellie Pearl (Russell) Laird. She married Paul Pruitt in 1940. He died in 1994. She married James Newman in 1996. He died in 1999.
She was an adult sitter and care-giver and was a member of Union City’s First Assembly of God. She attended Twin Cities Assembly of God in South Fulton.
Survivors include her daughter and son-in-law, Stella and Ronnie Cruce of Nortonville, Ky.; her son and daughter-in-law, Paul and Amanda Pruitt of Union City; six grandchildren, Ronniccia Esiamann of Germany, Vicki Duncan of Slaughters, Ky.; Christy Boal of Madisonville, Ky., Rodney Cruce of Orlando, Fla., and Dylan Pruitt and Holden Pruitt, both of Union City; her sister and brother-in-law, Lillie and Ira Turner of Union City; four brothers and sisters-in-law, James and Nell Laird of South Fulton, Arlee and Ruth Laird of Dresden, Murl and Cynthia Laird of Erin and George and Sandra Laird of the Latham community; and several nieces and nephews.
She was also preceded in death by her granddaughter, Crystal Cruce; two brothers, Elmer Laird and Earl Laird; and her sister, Katherine Finley.
