Samuel P. Hurst, 76, of Kenton died Oct. 3, 2008, at VanAyer Manor Healthcare in Martin.
Services were 2 p.m. Sunday at Kenton chapel of Leitherland Funeral Home, with the Rev. Tim Sanderson officiating. Burial followed in Mount Moriah Cemetery near Obion.
He was born Nov. 6, 1931, son of the late Naaman and Ettie George (Gould) Hurst. He was married to Dorothy Hurst, who survives, and was a retired employee of Goodyear Tire & Rubber Co. in Union City. He was a member of Kenton First Baptist Church and was a disabled veteran.
Survivors also include three sons and daughters-in-law, Allen and Kaye Hurst of Obion, Wayne and Janice Hurst of Dresden and Samuel Hurst Jr. and Rebekah of Lineville, Ala.; his daughter and son-in-law, Mary and Rickey Butler of Kenton; his brother, Joseph Hurst of Paragould, Ark.; and 12 grandchildren and five great-grandchildren.
He was also preceded in death by a grandchild, four sisters and two brothers.
