The Rev. Howard Augusta Truett, 78, of Ridgely died Oct. 5, 2008, at The Bridge at Ridgely.

Services will be 1 p.m. Tuesday at Ridgely chapel of  Dyersburg Funeral Home, with burial following in New Haven Cemetery in Ridgely.

The Rev. Pat Murdock will officiate and pallbearers will be Kenneth Stover, Jamie Thetford, Paul Truett, Frank Murdock and Tim Adams. Honorary pallbearers will be Terry Pierce, Bonnie Johnson and Bobby Jones.

Friends may call at the funeral home 5:30-8 p.m. today.

He was the widower of Doris (Lynch) Truett and was a retired minister and a member of Cottonwood Baptist Church. He had been the pastor of Mooring Baptist Church and had been a volunteer chaplain for 15 years at Northwest Correctional Facility in Tiptonville, where he was recognized as the Tennessee Volunteer of the Year in 1974.

He was a U.S. Army veteran of the Korean War.

Survivors include his son and daughter-in-law, Howard “Bembo” and Linda Truett of Obion; four grandchildren, Brandi Murdock and Erica Thetford, both of Union City, Kayla Truett of Huntingdon and Elizabeth Sellers of Obion; and two great-grandchildren, Hayley Murdock and Emma Murdock.
