Loren Carl “Gus” Hill, 58, of Union City died 2:35 p.m. Oct. 4, 2008, at Jackson-Madison County General Hospital.

A private memorial service is planned, with the Rev. Jerry Leggett officiating.

Friends may call at Dilday Funeral Home in Union City Wednesday from 1-3 p.m. and from 7-9 p.m.

He was born Aug. 22, 1950, in Vanceburg, Ky., son of the late Lloyd and Florence (McCulla) Hill. He was married to the former Gail Beckholt Sept. 23, 1975. She survives. He had been employed as a pipe superintendent by Fagen Inc. and was building the ethanol plant near Obion. He was a U.S. Marine Corp veteran of Vietnam and was a Baptist.

Survivors also include his son and daughter-in-law, Brian and Diann Hawk of Covington, Va.; his daughter and son-in-law, Amanda and David Rice of Cape Coral, Fla.; seven grandchildren, Gavin Hawk, Dustin Hawk, Whitley Sheppard and J.C. Sheppard, all of Covington, Va.; Jocelyn Page of Pensacola, Fla., and Jakob Rice and Katelyn Rice, both of Cape Coral; his sister and brother-in-law, Margaret and Jim Tanner of Galion, Ohio; and several aunts, uncles and cousins.

He was also preceded in death by his brother, Mike Hill.
