Gerald Tanner Sanders, 75, of Obion died Oct. 2, 2008, at Methodist Hospital in Memphis.
Services were at 3 p.m. Sunday at White & Mahon Funeral Home in Troy, with burial following in Oak Ridge Cemetery near Obion.
The Rev. Rick Knoll officiated and pallbearers were Brent Gaither, Roger Sanders, Lynn Sanders, Billy Smith, John Law, Ty Parker, Tab Ragsdale and Chris Cummings. Honorary pallbearers were Boyd Clanton, Emery Burden, Tom Hopkins, Herman Denning, Danny Smith, Jimmy Gwaltney, Ebb Gwaltney Jr., Randy Mouser, Jimmy Thomas, Coleman Hamlin, Bubba Smith and Jerry Lynn Carver.
The family requests that memorials be made to Tennessee Children’s Home, West Tennessee Campus, P.O. Box 10, Springhill, TN 37174.
He was born Dec. 8, 1932, in Obion, son of the late Willie Len and Alliene (Tanner) Sanders. He married the former Elizabeth “Libby” Beardslee Aug. 31, 1963. She survives. He was a retired farmer and he attended Oak Ridge Church of Christ.
He is also survived by two daughters and sons-in-law, Angela and Chris Naifeh of the Millsfield community and Bethany and Terry Matthews of John’s Island, S.C.; his son, Gerald Brian Sanders of Obion; his sister and brother-in-law, Marilyn and Lonnie Gaither of Memphis; three brothers and sisters-in-law, Randall and Deloris Sanders, Lowell and Glenda Sanders and Kenneth and Paula Sanders, all of Obion; two grandchildren, Olivia Beth Naifeh and Laurel Christian Naifeh, both of Millsfield; and several nieces and nephews.
