The Lady Generals won the Obion County School System’s junior high softball championship with a a 7-3 victory over Ridgemont in the title game of the league’s postseason tournament.
Over the course of the double-elimination event held at Rebel Field in Troy, LR went undefeated as they downed South Fulton 2-0 and Ridgemont 6-2 en route to the championship game berth.
Meanwhile, Ridgemont’s path to the final included a 3-1 victory over South Fulton in the semis, the 6-2 loss to LR and a 10-3 drubbing of Hillcrest.
Overall, Saturday’s play was a sharp contrast from the regular season, when the Lady Mustangs swept Lake Road by final scores of 6-3 and 5-4.
On Saturday, Alex Wilson was the winning pitcher during the Lady Generals’ title-clinching victory, while Emily Pickard was tagged with the mound loss for R’mont.
After the conclusion of the title game, Wilson was joined by Carly Whipple, Payton Robertson and Brandi Goodman on the All-OCSS team. Meanwhile, Pickard was selected to the glitter unit along with fellow Lady Mustangs Peyton Daniel, Kayla Bramlett, Madilyn Hamilton and Kelly Wherry, according to tournament director Tommy Victory.
Pickard was the winning pitcher in her team’s semifinal win over SF.
Sara Reams, who went 1-2 in the event, absorbed the mound defeat for the Devilettes.
Reams and Desiray Sturgeon were named to the league’s postseason squad.
Otherwise at the tournament, South Fulton eliminated a pair of teams as they took out Hillcrest 9-1 and Black Oak 13-1.
Sturgeon was the winning pitcher in the game that knocked BO out, while Reams took the victory in the triumph against H’crest. Callie Johnson was the losing Lady Eagle hurler, while Juliane Albright took the defeat for Hillcrest.
The Lady Cougars were represented by Baylie Boucher and Tori York on the All-OCSS glitter unit, while Black Oak’s Teresa Readenour also was selected to the team.
Hillcrest suffered its first loss of the afternoon when they fell 10-3 to Ridgemont in the third game of the afternoon.
Pickard got the victory in that game, with Boucher absorbing the defeat.
In the tournament’s opening game, H’crest outlasted Black Oak 15-12 in a shootout. Rachel Jones was the winning pitcher, while Darcey Jones took the defeat.
