Youth pastors and workers host CONNECT
The Student Leadership Network, which consist of several local youth pastors and youth workers hosted the seventh annual CONNECT at the Obion County Fairgrounds last Wednesday night. This event was the largest attended in the seven-year history of CONNECT with approximately 5000 in attendance. This year’s attraction was the Real Encounter Outreach team from Springfield, Mo. This team utilized BMX Bicycling, Motorcycle Stunt Riding and Freestyle Motorcross as its main attraction. One new element that the Student Leadership Network brought to CONNECT this year was Real Encounter’s Extreme Impact School Assemblies. The purpose of this character-based school assembly is to teach that one student can have a positive impact on their school campus. The assembly utilizes motorcycles, live entertainment and the latest in audio and video technology. The assembly addressed the negative impact of bullies and shows how one student can have a positive impact on their school. The assembly also discusses the character qualities of discipline, positive attitudes, personal integrity and encouragement. The Student Leadership Network and Real Encounter shared the ability to make a positive difference in the world with more than 4000 students at 11 different schools in just three days. Real Encounter concluded their positive impact on our community with CONNECT. During CONNECT, the Real Encounter team demonstrated their gifts and talents by taking to the air in high octane, extreme sports. The BMX team demonstrated their skills by jumping close to 20 feet in the air and flipping, turning and dazzling the spectators with their ability. During the midpoint of the evening, Brad Bennett (the founder of Real Encounter) shared a personal testimony of the faith that he found in Christ. This testimony was followed by several hundred giving their lives to Christ. The evening ended with the main event, Freestyle Motorcross. Real Encounter once again demonstrated incredible feats by jumping close to 50 feet high and across a span of 70 feet, displaying a number of dangerous stunts while in the air. This year’s CONNECT was once again supported by several local churches, the Beulah Baptist Association, the Tennessee Baptist Convention and The Student Leadership Network.wcp 10-2-08
