The New Salem FCE Club met for the regular meeting in the home of Sara Simmons. She welcomed 11 club members, agent Beverly Shelby and guest Ann Bequette. President Bettie Higgs opened the meeting with the quote: “If you want to add value to your life, take care of every moment” (Chinese fortune). Devotion leader Phyllis Collins brought an interesting devotional based on the 23rd Psalm. Song leader Marjorie led songs “School Days” and “Bringing in the Sheaves.” Ladies repeated the club creed together. In answer to the roll call each one answered with the number of food items she brought for We Care and gave her favorite memory of fall. Our president reminded us of the County Council meeting and craft workshop to be held Oct. 9 and a bingo party to be held in October for Martin Health Care residents. We reported on the enjoyable outing on Aug. 1 to the Obion County Museum and Sassafras Restaurant. Six members attended the Western District Conference at Paris Landing Conference Center. Five ladies helped with judging at the Henry County and Obion County fairs. Agent Beverly Shelby brought the program, “Cook’s Corner: Cook It Safely,” in which she reviewed by way of a quiz the things we need to know to store and prepare foods safely. The adjourning quote by Elbert Hubbard was “Get happiness out of your work or you may never know what happiness is,” after which the hostess provided recreation and refreshments. Bettie and Deanna Higgs will be hostesses to the next meeting at 1:30 p.m. Friday, Oct. 3. Each lady is asked to bring a show and tell item for the program.wcp 10-2-08
