William Marvin Thompson Jr., 61, a longtime resident of the Highland area in Union City, died Friday, Sept. 26, 2008, at Jackson Regional Hospital. Services were at 2 p.m. Sunday at White-Ranson Funeral Home, with Lonnie Grady and Jeff Bell officiating. Burial followed at Stanley’s Chapel Cemetery near Union City. Pallbearers were Ken Garrigan, Ronnie Coleman, Mike Haynes, Mark McCullough, Mickey Graham, Mark Graham, Kenneth Kemp, Kenneth Sledd and Tim Smith. Honorary pallbearers were members of the Obion County Fair Association. Thompson was born Feb. 9, 1947, in Decatur County, son of Lucile Marvin Thompson of the Midway community and the late William Marvin Thompson Sr. He was a farmer and landowner and a member of Bishop Street Church of Christ. He was also a board member of the Obion County Fair Association. He is also survived by his wife, Allyson Graham Thompson; two sons and a daughter-in-law, William Marvin “Bill” Thompson III and Wendy Thompson of Martin and Bradley Graham Thompson of Union City; four sisters and brothers-in-law, Janice and Ken Garrigan, Rosemary and Ronnie Coleman, Emily and Mike Haynes and Melinda and Mark McCullough, all of Union City; and five grandchildren, William Marvin Thompson IV, Macy Avery Thompson, Katy Beth Thompson, Drake Copeland and Ryan Copeland, all of Martin. The family requests that memorials be made to Bishop Street Church of Christ building fund or Obion County Hometown Walk of Hope.
