  Ad distorts truth

about Obama

To The Editor:

Another hero bites the dust. John McCain had gone down. What a loss of a man of courage, integrity and honor. Or at least that’s how I thought of him. And that’s how he came across in a recent interview in Time magazine. One part of the interview did puzzle me, though. The interviewer asked him three times to define his concept of honor and three times he refused.

A few days after reading the interview, I saw an ad, put out by the Republican presidential campaign, excoriating Barack Obama as a pervert who tried to get a bill passed in the Illinois state legislature, requiring all kindergartens to teach comprehensive sex education courses. I immediately went up in smoke.

I tell you, I spent a sleepless night, tossing and turning, in a stew about Obama’s fitness to be president. Fortunately, the next day I found out the truth or no telling how many more nights of sleep I would have missed. The ad was full of deliberate misrepresentations, unfounded accusations and half-truths. In fact, the only completely true statement in the ad was the last sentence, which said, “I’m John McCain, and I approved this message.”

In a flash, I knew why McCain had refused to define his idea of honor. He couldn’t. He’s forgotten what it is.
