A Union City man told police he was robbed by a man with a gun early Sunday while walking in the 900 block of Vine Street at Clover Street in Union City.
The victim said the incident occurred between about 5 a.m. and 5:15 a.m. when he was allegedly approached by a dark-skinned black man who asked if he had any change, according to a Union City Police Department report.
The victim told police he saw a small handgun in the man’s hand. He said he told the man he did not have anything, at which time the man allegedly struck him on the left side of the back of his head, knocking him to his knees, and used profanity toward him, police reported.
According to the report, the victim said he took out his wallet and threw it on the ground, at which time the robber picked it up and ran between some houses. The victim said he walked around for a while and then started to feel sick, which is when he stopped at a home in the 200 block of Nash Street and asked for help.
The victim was taken to Baptist Memorial Hospital-Union City for treatment. His only visible injury was a slightly swollen area behind his left ear, police reported.
