Billy Matt Stover, 77, of Dyer died Sept. 26, 2008, after a long illness. He had been employed at the former Bank of Elbridge at the start of his career.
Services were 2 p.m. Sunday at First United Methodist Church in Dyer, where he was a member, with burial following in New Chapel United Methodist Church Cemetery in Elbridge community.
Karnes & Son Funeral Home in Dyer was in charge of arrangements.
The family requests that memorials be made to New Chapel United Methodist Church Cemetery Association in Elbridge or Dyer First United Methodist Church building fund.
He was a U.S. Air Force veteran and had been a State of Tennessee bank examiner. He was president of Farmers and Merchants Bank in Dyer from 1968 until his retirement in 1986 and he served as chairman of the board, director and CEO until his death. He was also on the board of directors of the State of Tennessee Bankers Association and was a director of Gibson Electric Co-op.
He was a member of the West Tennessee Golf Association for 25 years and was a Mason and a Shriner and a member of the Dyer Order of Eastern Star.
He is survived by his wife of 52 years, Jackie Stover; two daughters and sons-in-law, Kalista and Jon Carroll and Terrie and William Joyner; two granddaughters, Julie Joyner and Kellie Joyner; his sister and brother-in-law, Peggy and Joe Lamanna; and his nephew, Joey Lamanna.
He was preceded in death by his parents, Powell and Cammie Stover.
