Junior Auxiliary of Obion County, working with the Obion County and Union City schools’ Coordinated School Health program, is kicking off the annual Coats for Kids program.

The organization is collecting children’s coats in reasonably good shape. Town and Country Cleaners in Union City will be cleaning these coats so they will be in excellent condition for distribution to children in need.

Coats can be left at Kizer Pharmacy on South Miles Avenue until 6 p.m. weekdays and at the Obion County Career Technology Center at 1700 North Fifth St. in Union City until 3 p.m. weekdays. The deadline to receive coats for distribution will be Oct. 24.

When coats have been collected, JAs will be working with the Union City and Obion County school systems to take names of children who may need winter coats.

Parents who need coats for their children may call Jo McKinnis or Heather Kendall at 885-7171 for more information.

When coats have been prepared for pickup, information on the location and time for distribution will be announced in News Notes. Coats can also be sent to the schools the children attend, if parents request this means of receiving coats. The child’s name, size and home room teacher and school must be provided for this type of delivery.
