Bettie Jeanette (Cochran) Thurmond, 74, of Union City died Sept. 19, 2008, at VanAyer Manor Nursing Home in Martin.

Graveside services were 2 p.m. Sunday at East View Cemetery, with the Rev. Kenny Locke officiating.

Pallbearers were David Tuck, Harold Cochran, Buster Tuck, Steve Pinion, Jamie Cochran and Claude Cochran Jr.

She was born in Obion County Dec. 17, 1933,  daughter of the late Felix Lester and Mary Ellen (Bumpious) Cochran. She was a homemaker and was a member of Pleasant Valley United Methodist Church in Union City. She was also a painter and a quilter.

Survivors include her daughter, Arlene Wade of South Fulton; her grandson, Garrett Wade of South Fulton; three sisters, Joella Parrott of South Fulton, Ouida Osborne of Union City and Lois Sullivan of Troy; and five brothers, Claude Cochran of Lewisville, Ohio, Marion Cochran of Jackson, Wayne Cochran of Troy, David Cochran of Southaven, Miss., and Larry Cochran of Murfreesboro.

She was also preceded in death by three brothers, Graden Cochran, Gwinn Cochran and Ellis Cochran; four sisters, Geniece Ragsdale, Grear Owens, Grace Arnn and Rebecca Pinion; her son, Curtis Thurmond; and her granddaughter, Erika Wade.
