Gardner F. Damron Sr., 87, of Martin, died Wednesday, Sept. 17, 2008, at Volunteer Community Hospital. Graveside services were held in East Side Cemetery, with the Rev. Franklin Gardner officiating. Murphy Funeral Home was in charge of arrangements. Perry Bowlin, T. J. Damron, Franklin Gardner and David Murphy served as pallbearers. Damron was born June 9, 1921, in Martin, son of the late Hall and Alberta Gardner Damron. He was a graduate of Martin High School, a U.S. Army veteran and formerly owned Damron Trucking Co. He was elected to Tennessee General Assembly and served as a state representative for the 81st General Assembly from 1959-1961 representing Carroll, Henry and Weakley counties. He was a member of Cumberland Presbyterian Church. Survivors include his wife, Sue Tate Damron of Martin; one son, Faine Damron of Martin; one daughter, Martha Jo Damron of Martin; one sister, Josephine Damron of Martin; two grandsons, Perry Bowlin and T. J. Damron, both of Martin; and two grandchildren, Ryan Gardner Damron and Rachel Bowlin. He was also preceded in death by one daughter, Kathy Damron. Web site: murphyfuneralhome.net wcp 9-23-08
