CornFest tennis event
set for next weekend

The CornFest Open Tennis Tournament is set for Sept. 26 through 28 at the Union City Middle School Tennis Courts.
There will be numerous divisions for both adults and children to compete in at the event.
Registration will be taken through Wednesday of next week with the cost $15 per person.
It must be completed and returned to Margie Smith.
Entry forms are available at with the first 50 people that complete their forms to be given a T-shirt.

Scout with local ties
to talk baseball in UC

Donnie Mitchell, a former Union City resident and the former director of scouting for the Arizona Diamondbacks and national scouting supervisor with the Atlanta Braves, will be speaking to the Union City Fall League about the baseball evaluation process at the collegiate and professional level on Tuesday at Elam Stadium.
Mitchell, a UT Martin product, played in the minor league system of the Cincinnati Reds from 1982-84.
The event is set to begin at 7 p.m.

Victors at Pop event
have slim stroke win

Poplar Meadows Country Club held its weekly scramble Wednesday with the winning team shooting 9-under par.
The winning team included Ron Cooper, Paul Phelan, Herman Jenkins, Lynn Jenkins, Tim Shanks and Jody Kizer.
Finishing in second at 8-under par was the team of Amos Davis, Gary Gill, Eddie Chancellor, Jim Baker and Tiger Haag.
The weekly scramble begins at 5:30 p.m. each week. The cost is $10 for members and $15 for non-members. The fee includes dinner.
Anyone interested in participating should call 885-3650 by 2 p.m. Wednesday.

Austin Peay-UTM tix
on sale in Martin

Tickets UT Martin’s football game Saturday at Austin Peay State University are now on sale at the Skyhawk Ticket Office.
Kickoff for Saturday’s Ohio Valley Conference opener for both teams is set for 6 p.m. at Governors’ Stadium on the Austin Peay campus in Clarksville.
Tickets are $12 each. To buy tickets or for more information, contact the Skyhawk Ticket Office at (731) 881-7207.
Tickets are also on sale now for the Sept. 27 away game at Murray State. Murray State tickets are $10 each. Kickoff for the game against the Racers is 6 p.m. at Roy Stewart Stadium.

Titans asking fans
to donate old phones

The Tennessee Titans and AT&T are asking fans to bring their used cell phones to Sunday’s game against theHouston Texans at LP Field.
The wireless phones will be collected at drop locations outside LP Fieldwith collection beginning at 9:30 a.m. through 12:15 p.m.
Once collected, the used cell phones will be recycled and the proceeds will help benefit local charities determined by AT&T.
Last year, AT&T donated 10,000 prepaid cards worth more than $270,000 for “Cell Phones for Soldiers,” a joint initiative to help troops stationed overseas call their loved ones back home. The charity purchased prepaid cards at a reduced rate to help more troops serving our country.
Last season, the Titans & AT&T raised over $12,000 with the support of Titans fans during this drive.
