On Aug. 27 the Gardner F.C.E. Club met in the home of Louise Wynia. All the members were greeted with a cheerful smile by the hostess as they arrived. President, Elsie Smith, gave the thought of the day, “A perfect summer day is when the sun is shining, the breeze is blowing, the birds are singing and the lawn mower is broken.” She called the meeting to order thanking the hostess for inviting members into her home. Devotional leader, Martha Helen Sellers, led the group in singing “Amazing Grace.” Her devotional was on death and the affects that it has on all families that are left behind. The club creed was repeated in unison by the group. Roll call was “It’s the Dog Days of Summer.” What was the name of your first dog (or other pet)? Louise Wynia read the minutes and the treasurer’s report. They both were approved as read. President Smith called for new business. Registration for state conference is due in September. Club officers for the coming year were selected and approved. They are president – Elsie Smith; vice president – Mary Lucille Bell; devotional leader – Martha Helen Sellers; secretary and treasurer – Louise Wynia; and reporter – Mary Lucille Bell. President Smith gave a most interesting and informative talk about eyes as she recently had cataract surgery. Lots of discussion was had among the members. A door prize was given with much fun and laughter during the social hour with delicious refreshments. Members present that were not mentioned before were Mary Lucille Bell, Nell Bell and Sara Hazelwood.wcp 9-18-08
