Cranford’s low score
can’t lift South Fulton

South Fulton’s Justin Cranford posted the lowest individual score, but it was not enough to get his team into first place during a three-way golf match at the Fulton Country Club Thursday afternoon.
The Red Devils came in second with a 168, five strokes back of the winner Dyersburg (163), but nine shots ahead of third-place Dresden (177).
For SF behind Cranford’s 35, Chase Mayfield carded a 37, Hunter Hutchins a 43 and Austin Puckett a 53.
Meanwhile, in girls’ play, Dyersburg bettered the Devilettes 86-104.
Maeghan Eaves had SF’s low score with a 44, while teammate Kristin Byrd contributed a 60.

Reams keys victory
for Jr. Devilettes

South Fulton’s Sara Reams went 3-for-4 to key her team’s 15-5 triumph over Lake County in jayvee softball action Thursday.
The Devilettes also got offensive contributions from Lacey Johnson (2-for-4) and one hit each by Sam Murray, Haven Sisson, Allison Stem and Claire McConnell.
Winning pitcher Desiray Sturgeon also offered a safety during the victory.
South Fulton (2-2) returns to action at home Tuesday afternoon against Hillcrest.

Obion Central golfers
have more tough luck

Obion Central had more tough luck on the golf course on Thursday in a three-team match at Dyer.
The Rebels tied Westview through regulation with both teams compiling a score of 182. However, the locals were dropped to third place after a defeat in a putt-off on the ninth hole.
Overall, Gibson County won the match with a 166.
For Central, John Michael Green’s 43 was the best score of the afternoon, while Jacob Mobbs was a shot off his teammate’s pace with a 44.
Otherwise, Tanner Noles and Jake Lawrence carded respective scores of 47 and 48.

Wynridge winners
announced by course

The team of Bruce Culver, Glen Hale, Eddie Thompson, Matt Russell and Larry Barker combined to shoot a 7-under-par and win during the weekly men’s scramble at Wynridge Greens in Troy Thursday.
Meanwhile, the combined efforts of Patrick Bane, David Puckett, Timmy Sutherland Sr., Shawn Laymont and Bobby Gammons got second place.

Garmon runs, guns
during SF grid win

Jaquay Garmon ran for one touchdown and threw for another to lead South Fulton to a 42-22 romp over Gibson County middle school football action Thursday night.
The Red Devils won for the third time in as many starts, bolting to a 30-0 halftime lead on the way to their latest win.
Garmon rushed for a five-yard TD, then hit Skylar Britt with a 10-yard scoring toss to round out the first half for SF.
Kyle Watkins ran for a 13-yard touchdown and added a two-point conversion, while Tevaris James accounted for two PATs. Tymaine Strickland broke loose on a 51-yard TD sprint and tacked on a conversion, and Harrison Hawks hit paydirt from 28 yards out.
Ryan Prince had a team-high six tackles and forced a fumble to pace the Devil defense, while Taylor Martin was in on five stops, had a fumble recovery and a forced fumble. Strickland was credited with five total hits.
SF plays at Hillcrest next Thursday.
