The Messenger. 08.28.08 The Hunter Hynds Unit of United Methodist Women met in August at Stanley’s Chapel United Methodist Church with 12 members present. President Chris Cheatham called the meeting to order, led the reading of the purpose and offered a prayer for concerns that were voiced by the members. Lucile Thompson read the minutes and Leanne Parnell gave the treasurer’s report. An announcement was made that the District Annual Day will be held Sept. 14 at 2 p.m. at Tiptonville United Methodist Church. Tentative plans were discussed for the next meeting to be held at the church Sept. 10 at 7 p.m. Sandra McTurner presented the program, “Made in the Image of God,” written by Jacob S. Dharmaraj. The focus was on understanding the different people who share the land of Israel. Each member was given a card on which a name of a child who had been killed in recent violence in the area around Israel was written. Readers included Emily Haynes, Rosemary Coleman, Serena Blanton and Mrs. Parnell. Mrs. Haynes led the unit in a song composed by a group from the United Methodist Women’s South Atlantic Regional school, “This Land Is Your Land,” sung to the tune of that same name. Scripture was read from Amos 9:7. The worship center was a table that held the cross and old keys. The closing song was “Let There Be Peace on Earth,” led by Mrs. Haynes and Mrs. Coleman, who played the piano. Mrs. Haynes also gave the benediction.
