The Coal Men will perform at the Cumberland County Playhouse in Crossville, TN on September 12 at 7:30 CST. They’ve been called “alternative country”, “country rock”, and just plain old, good ole rock n roll, but The Coal Men are clearly of the Cumberlands, and among Nashville’s coolest new bands and recording artists. Jamestown-raised and Cumberland County-born band leader Dave Coleman draws on his youth in the mountains, and around the bluffs of the Cumberland Plateau, to craft songs like “Beauty is a Moment”, which titles the group’s biggest album. Vintage Guitar magazine said “Dave Coleman…is the force behind much of what puts The Coal Men into the first rank of roots rock/alternative country music” With a sound that harks back to muscular bands of the 70’s you could dance to and sing along with, the music has a rocky edge, but an authentic, folky storytelling style. “We welcome The Coal Men and their young audience,” says Playhouse Producer Jim Crabtree, “they have a sound and style that resonates for boomers like me who remember the classic bands of our youth. The band’s songs seem to recall outdoor times, hunting and fishing and hiking in the mountains, looking forward with a “green” longing to new outdoor days and traditional ways.” Also playing at the Cumberland County Playhouse are four theater productions including the gospel sounds of Smoke on the Mountain, sponsored by Cracker Barrel Old Country Store; First Baptist of Ivy Gap, sponsored by Crossville Ford-Lincoln-Mercury; Smoke…Homecoming, sponsored by First National Bank of Tennessee; and Gilbert and Sullivan’s The Pirates of Penzance, sponsored by Mariner’s Pointe and Tennessee Heart. The Coal Men add a bright and rocky Cumberland taste to the menu. A nice sample of The Coal Men’s music is easily accessed on the web at www.thecoalmen.com. Tickets can be purchased from the Playhouse Box Office at 931-484-5000. Visit the Playhouse online at www.ccplayhouse.com for additional information. Posted 8.21.08
