wcp Greetings everyone! We have stayed really busy here at the Martin Senior Adult Center. First of all, I want to say congratulations to Judy Johns. She was our winner in the “Fit for Life” adventure in the fitness room. She received a $20 gift certificate and lost a few pounds on the way. Thanks to everyone who participated in this activity, Here at the center on Aug. 14, we had a spaghetti dinner fundraiser. This included spaghetti, toast or crackers, Little Debbie cakes and tea, all for $3. We had a great turnout, and all the spaghetti was eaten. Wednesday, Aug. 20, the Jackson Eye Clinic will be here at 10 a.m. This is a free service, and we want to invite all senior citizens to come out and take advantage of this. The center’s monthly potluck will be Thursday, Aug. 21. Dinner is spread at 11:30 a.m. Everyone is welcome to bring a dish or two and join us. Now, here comes the super duper fun stuff. The annual Soybean Festival is just around the corner. During that week, the center has several things going on. We will be closed Monday, Sept. 1, for Labor Day and will reopen Tuesday, and that’s when the action begins. Tuesday and Wednesday, Sept. 2 and 3, is our Soybean Shuffleboard Tournament. If anyone is interested in playing, the sign up sheets are here at the center. The deadline for signing up will be Aug. 25. During these two days of tournaments, there will be lunches provided for a cost of $2. Tuesday will be hot dogs with chips, cookie and drink. Wednesday will be hamburgers, chips, cookie and drink. Come on out this way for these two fun-filled days and cheer on the shuffleboard players and stay for lunch. Friday, Sept. 5, is our biggest day of all. We will be having our annual Soybean Breakfast from 6-10 a.m. This meal consists of your choice of sausage or bacon, eggs, biscuits and gravy, juice and coffee, all for only $3 per person. All ages are welcome. On this same day, we will also have our bake sale set up in the front room of the center. If anyone is interested in donating some baked goods, just bring them by the center from 8 a.m.- 5 p.m. Thursday, Sept. 4. All of your participation in supporting the center is greatly appreciated. Along with all this going on, our daily activities will continue. Everyone is welcome to join us in our activities such as bingo, cards and dominoes, and the list goes on and on. We are open from 8 a.m.-5 p.m. Monday through Friday. Hope to see you soon!
