One Union City man was seriously injured and another charged with aggravated robbery following an alleged incident Wednesday afternoon on Nash Street in Union City.

Scott J. Mayberry of 610 East Leah St., Union City, was injured in an incident reported about 3:45 p.m., according to a Union City Police Department report.

Charged in connection with the incident is Latonio Montez Fair, 18, of 604 Nash St., Apt. 55, Union City, who was arrested at 11:28 p.m. Wednesday on East College Street on a charge of aggravated robbery, police reported.

Fair is accused of assaulting Mayberry and robbing him of a small amount of cash in the middle of the 500 block of Nash Street. Mayberry apparently was knocked unconscious but his assailant allegedly continued to beat him, according to an affidavit filed by police.

Mayberry sustained significant injuries, including a severe laceration behind his eye and about three broken bones in his face, police reported. He was taken by Regional Emergency Medical Services ambulance to Baptist Memorial Hospital-Union City for treatment.

Police had responded Wednesday afternoon to an area in front of East Gate Village on Nash Street in reference to a man lying in the street. Upon arrival, officers observed a man trying to get up; his head and face were covered in blood and he had a large knot on the left side of his forehead and face.

Several people at the scene told police that about five people allegedly jumped the man and ran off, according to the report.

The incident remains under investigation.
