Messenger Sports Brief for August 14

Messenger Sports Brief for August 14

Countdown now on
for revamped grid tab

Seven days and counting.
The Messenger’s annual award-winning preseason football tabloid is set for publication a week from today, Aug. 21.
The much-anticipated section — judged among the best in the state for the past 11 years by the Tennessee Sports Writers Association — will have a decidedly different look this year.
Gone are the tabloid-sized pages, replaced by a full-sized supplement edition. The insert will be bigger than ever before, the byproduct of tremendous advertiser interest and participation, as well as an expanded subject menu and section layout that includes stories, statistics and features.
Two of Obion County’s three prep football entries will open their respective seasons with Week 0 games on Friday, Aug. 22, as Obion Central travels to Jackson South Side and South Fulton hosts West Carroll.

Jr. high jamboree
set at South Fulton

South Fulton High School will be the host for a middle school football jamboree on Saturday.
The action begins at 5 p.m. with Black Oak taking on Gleason. Lake Road vs. Fulton County will follow at approximately 5:45.
After that matchup, Ridgemont will take on Greenfield at 6:30 with Fulton City battling Hillcrest at 7:15 and SF squaring off with Dyer at 8.
Tickets will be available at the gate.

3rd annual Beech race
to benefit cancer camp

The third annual Beech Bluff Bluebird Walk will take place on Sept. 27.
Registration will begin at 8 a.m. while the 5K run/walk starts at 9 in the morning at the Woodmen of the World Lodge in Beech Bluff.
Advance entry fee is $15 and registration the day of the event is $20.
Prizes will be given in numerous age categories. Proceeds will benefit Camp Bluebird, an adult cancer camp held twice a year.
