NASHVILLE (AP) — A new Andrew Jackson Presidential $1 coin is being introduced Thursday in Nashville as it goes into circulation across the country. Officials of the United States Mint will unveil the coin at The Hermitage, which was Jackson’s home east of Nashville. The mint has issued more than 1 billion Presidential $1 coins in the order the presidents served, starting with the George Washington Presidential $1 coin in February 2007. Andrew Jackson was the seventh president, serving from 1829 to 1837. His picture also is on $20 bills. — On the Net: www.usmint.gov Published in The Messenger 8.14.08
