Golden Living Center-Union City has been selected by the American Health Care Association/National Center for Assisted Living (AHCA/NCAL) to receive the Step I Quality Award for the outstanding care and service it provides to its residents. The Living Center is one of only 314 nursing homes out of more than 10,000 eligible nationwide to earn this recognition. “This is an absolute honor for me personally because it speaks volumes about the care we provide each of our residents,” said Joan Brinkley, executive director of Golden Living Center-Union City. “This is a testimony to the hard work and dedication to our entire staff.” To be selected by AHCA/NCAL as a Step I Quality Award recipient, a nursing home must demonstrate an organization-wide commitment to a patient-centered mission, define its principal customers and their expectations, and indicate how it is striving to meet their needs. The AHCA/NCAL Quality Awards are designed to recognize quality achievement, while supporting improvement efforts in long-term care through the promotion of education and awareness. “The AHCA/NCAL Quality Awards are the most prestigious recognition of quality within the long-term care profession,” stated AHCA/NCAL president and CEO, Bruce Yarwood. “The Step I Award received by Golden Living Center shows their dedicated frontline caregivers, administrators, nurses and physicians are demonstrating their commitment to quality of care and meeting the needs of our nation’s most vulnerable population.” The ACHA/NCAL awards have been presented annually since 1996. They are modeled after the Malcolm Baldrige National Quality Award, which is the nation’s highest award for distinguished health care achievement. A ceremony for the winners of this year’s award will be held at the ACHA/NCAL Annual Convention and Exposition Oct. 5-8 in Nashville. Golden Living Center-Union City provides quality health care for 80 residents, including those needing skilled nursing and rehabilitative care. The Living Center has been a part of the Union City community since 1978 and it is located at 1105 Sunswept in Union City. For more information, call 885-6400. Published in The Messenger 8.13.08
