Miss Smith, Duncan to wed

The engagement and forthcoming marriage of Meagen Brooke Smith and Trent Coty Duncan, both of Union City, are being announced today. The bride-elect is the daughter of Barry and Robin McWherter of Union City. She is the granddaughter of Dorothy Tibbs of Dyersburg and Sue Clark and the late Larry Joe Clark of Dyersburg; and Danny and Robbie McWherter of Union City. She is a 2004 graduate of Obion County Central High School. She graduated cum laude in May 2008 from the University of Tennesee at Martin, where she received a degree in child and family studies. While at UTM, she was a member of the American Association of Family and Consumer Science and Phi Upsilon Omicron, a family and consumer science honor society. She was also named outstanding child and family studies student of 2008. She is employed as a teacher in the 4-year-old class at Children’s Corner Day Care in Union City. The groom-elect is the son of Farris and Rita Duncan of Union City. His grandparents are Myrtle Duncan and the late Floyd Duncan of Union City; the late James Preston Knight and the late Dorothy Tegethoff, both of Hornbeak. He is a 2004 graduate of Union City High School. He graduated cum laude in May 2008 from UTM, where he received a degree in accounting. While at UTM, he was a member of Tennessee Society of Certified Public Accountants. He is employed as a staff accountant at Alexander Thompson Arnold PLLC in Union City. The couple will exchange vows at 3 p.m. Oct. 18 at Second Baptist Church in Union City. Music will begin at 2:30. All friends and family are invited to attend. Published in The Messenger 8.11.08
