The Cumberland County Playhouse, in Crossville, TN, is pleased to announce the return of the perennial family favorite, Smoke on the Mountain, sponsored by Cracker Barrel Old Country Store. The production opens August 14 and runs through November 4. This marks the 15th consecutive season that the Sanders Family will grace the Playhouse stage in this original masterpiece. The year is 1938. It’s Saturday night in Mount Pleasant, NC, and the Reverend Oglethorpe has invited the Sanders Family Singers to provide an upliftin’ evening of singin’ and witnessin’. The audience is invited to pull up a pew and join in the rollicking good time. More than two dozen songs, many of them vintage pop hymns, and hilarious stories from the more or less devout Sanders provide a richly entertaining evening that has audiences clapping, singing, laughing and cheering. Playhouse favorite Jason Ross stars as Reverend Mervyn Oglethorpe. The Sanders Family is comprised of returning favorites Daniel Black as Dennis, Summer Dawn Wallace as Denise, Tommy Hancock as Burl, Lauren Marshall as Vera, Anne Staler as June, and Blake Holmes as Stanley. Daniel Black not only plays the role of Dennis, but also directs. Whether seeing it for the first time or the twentieth, Smoke on the Mountain is as good as theater gets. Also playing at CCP is First Baptist of Ivy Gap sponsored by Crossville Ford-Lincoln-Mercury; Smoke on the Mountain Homecoming sponsored by First National Bank of Tennessee; Disney’s Beauty and the Beast sponsored by Looney & Chadwell Title Serves and Kenneth & Carol Ann Chadwell; and The Pirates of Penzance sponsored by Mariner’s Pointe and Tennessee Heart. Tickets can be purchased from the Playhouse Box Office at (931) 484 – 5000. Visit the playhouse online at www.ccplayhouse.com to view the full season schedule and information. Posted 8.8.08
