NASHVILLE (AP) — A four-CD box set of recordings by the late Roy Orbison, including 12 previously unreleased tracks, will be issued in September. “The Soul of Rock and Roll” will include 107 songs covering Orbison’s earliest recordings in the 1950s to an unreleased recording from his final concert in December 1988 two days before he died. The set also includes his biggest hits like “Oh, Pretty Woman,” “Only the Lonely,” “Crying” (both a solo version and a duet with k.d. lang) and “You Got It.” “If you want a guide to Roy, here it is,” said Barbara Orbison, his widow, the executive producer of the project. Release date is Sept. 23, according to a news release Monday by Monument/Orbison Records/Legacy Recordings. Cost will be around $47. Orbison won or shared four Grammy awards and was inducted into the Rock and Roll Hall of Fame in 1987. Published in The Messenger 8.5.08
