Yorkville will host the annual International Washer Pitchin’ Contest on Aug. 16 and again expects thousands to visit this small town in rural Gibson County to compete for international acclaim or just to visit with old friends. Yorkville Park offers plenty of free parking, shade, great concessions and games for all ages. For 15 years, Yorkville has given folks from all over the USA and a few foreign countries an opportunity to see small town America at its best as it hosts this annual event. “It takes more people than we have in town to put on this great effort but folks from surrounding communities pitch in to help make the day a success,” said Mayor John Higdon Jr. Contest founder and executive committee chairman Jim Turner said you can’t compete in the games unless you wear a smile. “We don’t take the games too serious,” said Turner. “We want everyone that plays to have a good time regardless of skill level.” For more information, call (731) 643-6449 or e-mail payneins@ycinet.net.
