The 2008 Glover family reunion was held recently at Lakeview Dining Room Restaurant at Reelfoot Lake in Tiptonville. The annual reunion is the gathering of descendants from Joshua and Eleanor Crowe Thomas Glover. Joshua was born between 1765 and 1773 in Cumberland County, Va., and died about 1843. Their son, Jesse T. Glover, born March 22, 1799, is documented in Vol. 1 of Obion County History and in the 1850 and 1860 census. Jesse and his wife, Mary Dee Powell, born 1800, in Virginia, were married in Maury County, on June 17, 1817. Their children include Marcus Lafayette, James Gabriel, Charles Powell, Harriet, Phinehas, Everila, Jesse P., and Nancy Elizabeth Glover. This year’s spotlight was on a portrait of C.P. Glover, who was born in February 1829 in Henry County. He married Mary Catherine Norrid. Charles Powell was a farmer, physician and pastor in Obion County. He donated land to build a church and school and was the first pastor of Mount Olive Baptist Church. C.P. Glover’s portrait resides with Jerry and June Thomas of Union City. President Bill Cloar was assisted by Elaine Luther in welcoming attendees. Various documents and pictures pertaining to Glover ancestors were arranged on the sign-in table. Andy Luther took all new photos and documents and cut a CD for the Glover guests. After guests dined on fish and all the trimmings, Cloar opened the business meeting. Everyone introduced themselves and told how they were related to their Glover ancestors. Many stories were shared regarding the events in Glover history and how difficult life was for the Glover ancestors. Glover genealogy site, e-mail and family tree addresses were also shared. Anyone who is interested in working on the Glover family tree or in attending the reunion next year is invited to telephone Ms. Luther at (731) 589-0043 or Cloar at (731) 285-7932.
