The Messenger. 07.29.08 A Union City woman and her child were injured early Sunday in a one-vehicle crash on U.S. 45 West near Rives. Meredith Brown, 27, and her 2-year-old son were injured in the accident, which occurred about 2:52 a.m., according to Tennessee Highway Patrol Trooper Joe Terry. Ms. Brown was northbound on U.S. 45 West in a 2008 Pontiac G-6 when the vehicle tires ran off the east side of the roadway and the driver apparently overcorrected. The vehicle then went off the west side of the roadway and eventually overturned several times, coming to final rest upright on all four tires in a bean field, the THP reported. Ms. Brown’s 2-year-old son, whose name was not disclosed by the THP, was ejected from the vehicle. Terry said the child was riding in a safety seat at the time, though. Both Ms. Brown and her son were taken to Baptist Memorial Hospital-Union City for treatment. The child was later flown to Le Bonheur Children’s Medical Center in Memphis with apparently non-life threatening injuries, according to Terry. Ms. Brown has since been released from the hospital. Ms. Brown was charged with vehicular assault, according to Terry, who said the accident appeared to involve alcohol. The crash remains under investigation, with THP Sgt. Carl Jones assisting Terry.
