The Messenger. 07.28.08 A 12-year-old Union City child was injured Friday afternoon when he apparently drove his bicycle into the path of a mini van. Cody Seth Collins, 12, of 1115 Lannom Lane, Union City, sustained injury in an accident that occurred about 4:15 p.m. Friday in the 400 block of East Florida Avenue at Rose Street, according to a Union City Police Department report. He was taken by Regional Emergency Medical Services ambulance to Baptist Memorial Hospital-Union City for treatment of a leg laceration. Police reported that Felicia Evonne Thompson, 36, of 617 East Florida Ave., Union City, was eastbound on East Florida Avenue in a 1998 Ford Windstar mini van at the time of the accident. She told police that as she approached the intersection of East Florida Avenue and Rose Street, she did not see anything until the child on the bicycle was directly in front of her van screaming that he didn’t have any brakes. The child was riding southbound on Rose Street when he apparently failed to stop at a stop sign and entered into the path of Ms. Thompson’s vehicle, causing her to hit the bike, according to the report.
